Research

Overview

We found many health kiosks with a variety of features. A few of them had measuring tools that could determine the height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and more. All of them utilize a screen function to offer health benefits. Half of them center around performing telehealth meetings with certified health care professionals. Some were centered around educating the user on their own health or the health of others. There are already a lot of health kiosks in the professional world we can take inspiration from in our project. All of them have uniquely helpful features that provide assistance to people who need medical help.

Client Interview

What we learned

How are the various education levels going to be accommodated in the kiosk?

By primarily using icons and a simple user interface those who speak a different language or are illiterate should feel comfortable. Faith Community Nurses are also present to offer assistance where it’s needed.

What are common physical and mental disabilities or illnesses that we should include care for in the program?

Diabetes and foot care are important aspects that need to be addressed in the kiosk. Also relevant are prenatal care, teeth care, mental health, and drug abuse treatment. Overall transportation to an appointment, access to a temporary email, food pantry assistance, and OSF MyChart access are all very important features in the kiosk.

Where will this kiosk be implemented?

They will be implemented in Central Illinois as well as the OSF Care-a-Van. In Peoria, some will be added to The Salvation Army Shelter, Dream Center, and the Center for Prevention of Abuse with the objective to expand to the Chicagoland area to help more unhoused people.

What are some future goals for this program?

Eventually, they want to include online health visits as well as accounts for individual homeless people. They also want to expand to other needs for the homeless such as employment education.

Subject Matter Expert Interview

We had the opportunity to discuss with a subject matter expert in the field. We had a series of questions to help aid us in this project. We were able to gain more insight into the homeless crisis in Peoria and the surrounding area, what life is like as a homeless individual, and the ways shelters and government programs help.
